Tupelo, Lee County and TCPS all closed next week with no sports

Tupelo schools, Lee County schools and TCPS are all closed next week with no sporting events.

From TCPS:

Dear TCPS Community,
As stated in our communication yesterday, we have consulted with our administrative team, school board, and medical professionals to determine the best course of action for the safety and health of our students, families, and employees. Given the rapidly changing situation surrounding this virus, we are taking the following steps for the safety and health of the TCPS community.
1. We are extending Spring Break for another week. (March 16th through March 22nd)

2. We are suspending all school activities (including athletics) during this time. All contests and practices are suspended until further notice. (Contests will be rescheduled if possible at a later date)

3. Any students/faculty that traveled out of country (including cruises) will be required to “self quarantine” for 14 days before returning to school. Students will be excused and assignments will be provided. Employees will be excused and the days will not be counted against you.

4. We will be utilizing this time to sanitize and deep clean our campus. The campus will be closed for the week. Please do not come to the campus during this time.

Please use this time to stay at home and refrain from travel. Our goal is to resume school on March 23rd. However, we will continue to monitor this situation closely and plan to notify you of any necessary changes to our return date. By remaining at home, you can help ensure less exposure for our students when they return to classes the following week. Please also remember when you are considering the response to this virus that not all children have a healthy immune response. We have several students at our school that have an increased risk if infected. Our number one priority is the safety and health of all our students and their families.

Please pray for our nation during this time, and for our national, state, and local leaders as they make decisions in response to this situation. We will continue to monitor the situation, and will communicate with our families as needed through the coming week. We look forward to resuming classes on March 23, 2020.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7. As believers, we trust our God! He has not given us the spirit of fear, but has instead equipped us with power to endure trials, love to seek the good of others, and of a sound mind to act rationally and apply biblical truth to present circumstances. This is my prayer for our community in the coming days.
